Parallel Park With Right Away Driving School, Forest Lake MN

1. Turn on your right blinker as you approach the parking space. Stop with your rear bumper even with the rear bumper of the vehicle in front.

2. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. Check for traffic, then begin backing up slowly.

3. Back until your vehicle is at approximately a 45° angle, with the center of your car pointing toward the inside corner of the vehicle behind you. Stop.

4. Straighten the steering wheel and continue backing slowly until you are about 3 feet from the curb. Stop.

5. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and continue backing slowly until your vehicle is parallel to the curb. Stop.

6. Straighten the steering wheel and pull forward slowly to center your vehicle in the parking space. Put the vehicle in Park.

Final Check: Your wheels should be no more than 12 inches from the curb. Your vehicle should be centered between the cars. Make sure you are not blocking traffic before exiting the vehicle.

90° Backing Parking

1. Turn on your right blinker approximately 100 feet before the parking space.

2. Position your vehicle approximately 5 feet away from the cones and 3–4 feet past the last cone. Stop.

3. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and back slowly into the space until your vehicle is perpendicular to the curb.

4. Straighten the steering wheel and continue backing slowly until your vehicle is completely inside the cones. If needed, one adjustment is allowed to reposition the vehicle.

5. Put the vehicle in Park.

Leaving the Parking Space

1. Check traffic and turn on your right blinker.

2. Pull forward approximately 4 feet while checking for traffic.

3. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and slowly pull out, entering the traffic lane safely.

Final Check

• Vehicle is completely inside the parking space.

• Vehicle is reasonably centered between the cones.

• Look over both shoulders and check mirrors before backing and before entering traffic.

• Use your turn signal when leaving the parking space.
