How to - Parallel Park
1. POSITION THE VEHICLE
Turn on your right blinker as you approach the parking space. Stop with your rear bumper even with the rear bumper of the vehicle in front.
2. BEGIN BACKING
Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. Check for traffic, then begin backing up slowly.
3. REACH THE 45° ANGLE
Back until your vehicle is at approximately a 45° angle, with the center of your car pointing toward the inside corner of the vehicle behind you. Stop.
4. STRAIGHTEN THE WHEELS
Straighten the steering wheel and continue backing slowly until you are about 3 feet from the curb. Stop.
5. TURN LEFT
Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and continue backing slowly until your vehicle is parallel to the curb. Stop.
6. CENTER THE VEHICLE
Straighten the steering wheel and pull forward slowly to center your vehicle in the parking space. Put the vehicle in Park.
FINAL CHECK
Your wheels should be no more than 12 inches from the curb.
Your vehicle should be centered between the vehicles.
Make sure you are not blocking traffic before exiting your vehicle.
